There is a disturbing game being played amongst old friends in the nuclear industry which is sometimes called ‘paper reactors’, but the rules are much like the ‘Biggie Smalls Mirror Game’. The root concept of both games is that if you repeat something enough, it will become true. Now, you and I may be reasonable enough to understand that standing in front of a mirror and repeating the name ‘Biggie Smalls’ three times will not create a portal through which the ghost of Biggie Smalls can come and assault us, but there are those who do believe that they can create ‘paper reactors’ which do not now and may not ever exist, save on some few random pieces of paper or in the proponent’s mind. The effects suffered by those who have fallen prey to either of these types of ideas have been labeled ‘The Tinkerbell Effect’, which describes a situation where something is only true because an individual or small group of people believe in it.
